MUST HAVE // HERVE LEGER: UNO DEGLI STILISTI PIU' AMATI DALLE STAR

I dare say that, with its bondage roots, the leather harness trend that remains an undercurrent for spring 2011 and fall 2011's fashion trends. A large part of the fashion industry may made a mission out of pushing the envelope, but society at large isn't always quite ready for it. And that's statement is never truer then when a trend has sexual overtones - the world is still a largely conservative place.
That provides something of a problem for the harness. On the one hand, its sexual origins means that photo shoots are often going to portray it in a sexualised manner inline with the media's love of nudity (you'll find evidence of that fact after the jump). But that doesn't always allow publications such as Fashionising.com to provide full styling inspiration for a trend that, on the other hand, sees fantastic artisan statement pieces made by the likes of designer Zana Bayne.

And it's the work of Zana that features so heavily amongst the spring 2011 edition of i-D magazine's 'exhibitionist' issue. Even the titles gives away precisely where this fashion trend sits in the mind of so many in the industry. And it really needn't: a leather harness properly styled need carry no more sexual connotation then a leather cuff carries a bondage one.

You can see how that sexual connotation of the accessory plays out this time around in i-D magazine by clicking on the thumbnails below or by picking up a copy of the issue, while you can see more of the harness leather work of Zana Bayne by visiting www.zanabayne.co
