What's the fun in doing something others want you to do - Juana Molina

Juana Molina  was born in 1962 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a singer-songwriter and an actress. Lived in Paris for 6 years during her infancy where was surrounded by music and her guitar since the age of five. She worked as a comedian to make money for her music career, but became more famous than what she betted for. She first appeared in the Argentinean TV in the 1990's in the well known satiric show "La Noticia Rebelde". She later starred her own TV show "Juana y sus hermanas", that was hit across the Spanish-speaking world, for which she remains better known in Latin America.

In 1996 she decided to pursue her true love for music and from then released five albums. The lyrics on her albums are sung in her native Rioplatense Spanish, except in "The Wrong Song," sung in English, from Segundo, and "Insensible," sung in French, from Tres Cosas, and often accompanied by acoustic guitar among other instruments. Her music features elements of ambient and electronica, and she is often compared by critics to Björk, Beth Orton, and Lisa Germano.  Visit her website a www.juanamolina.com

She usually writes, mixes tracks and performs on her own. Her second album, Segundo, was named Best World Music Album 2003 in Entertainment Weekly and gained a Shortlist Award 2004 nomination. Tres Cosas was placed in the Top Ten Records of 2004 by the New York Times. It was recently announced that Molina has been chosen by Matt Groening to perform at the edition of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival he is curating in May 2010 in Minehead, England.
